This project is focusing specifically on the non-state
forestry sector which is represented by various associations of forest
owners existing in Slovakia.
The main objective of the project is to support the institutional development of non-state forestry sector and improve the environmental awareness of its owners. This objective is to be pursued by providing technical assistance and training services aiming at: Developing the sector and improving

Training of trainersTraining of trainers is the central activity to the project to which other activities are related. A training course has been organised for a selected group of trainers, who will act as resource persons for beneficiary organisations in the future.The usage of Internet is a part of the training program, the setup of this homepage is related to that training including an orientation of other web-pages of interest for the beneficiaries.
Study visits to EU countriesThe trainers took part in a study tour to Austria, Germany and Sweden which focused specifically on how forestry sector is organised in these countries. Slovak conference on non-state forest management in EU countriesWith the aim to provide a common platform for discussion in non-state forest sector and to facilitate development of co-operation a National Conference on Non-State Forestry was organised in November 1999. Series of one-day seminars for forest owners and employees of non-state forestryExperiences and knowledge gained during the training courses and the study tour were shared and disseminated among forest owners through a series of one-day seminars carried out in all regions of Slovakia. The main objective of the seminars was to raise awareness amongst forest owners about trends and development in forestry sector and to promote the cooperation of forest owners through regional association of forest owners
Preparation of leaflets, brochures etc. for non-state forest ownersWithin the project The Handbook for Non-state Forest Owners (PDF file - 2,5 MB -Slovak version only)
was elaborated and published. Target group are the non-state forestry
owners with none forestry background so the vocabulary should be chosen
accordingly. The content of the book is focusing on ownership, rights and
obligations of the owners, forest management in Slovakia, advantages of
joining an associations, etc. The handbook will be distributed by the Regional
Associations through the seminars, workshops and the other activities which
associations provide for their members.
Purchase and installation of computers and communication equipment at the beneficiary organisations of the Project16 computers and computer equipment were purchased within the project. All these computers are connected to the internet and they are used for communication between the beneficiary organisations as well as for the improvement of information flows between state and non-state forests.
Development of an Aggregate Forestry AccountThe objective of this activity is to identify what information should be available form the non-state forest sector to the state organisations in order to process and calculate statistical data and to unify the way how to provide and use this information.
Purchase and install complementary equipment to the printing unit at the Institute for Education and Training of Staff in Forestry and Water Management in ZvolenComplementary equipment to the printing unit at the Institute for Education and Training was purchased in order to increase labour productivity in the printing and editing centre and consequently to increase the quality and speed of the services provided to the non-state and state forest sector and all forestry public.
Elaboration of the Final Report and the recommendations
All the activities carried out during the whole
project are regularly registered in the form of progress reports and
finally completed in the final report. This report analyses and evaluates all
undertaken activities and the recommendations and solutions for the competent
organisations are made.
